However, photographing weddings that take place on a beautiful beach is quite possibly even more exhilarating. Beach weddings allow for unique settings, unimaginable creativity and a much more relaxed atmosphere. However, mastering wedding photography tips can be somewhat of a challenge in that photographers do not get the opportunity to practice these amazing shots very often, unless that is their primary wedding locale.
Here are just five practical tips to help in preparing for your experiences if you are new to this type of photography or even if you are a pro, these can help brush you up on ideas.
Top Tips for Wedding Photography on the Beach
1.) Choose the Right Settings.
Beach weddings are beautiful in that they allow the wedding party to be in the most unique and creative settings imaginable. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind is that the more unique the pictures are, the happier the wedding party will be since most people don't want exactly what others already have in their wedding albums. Carefully choosing the angle and locations of the pictures enables the wedding photographer to be quite certain that their photos will be unique and stunning.
2.) Take Photographs With Different Types of Lighting.
Many wedding photographers like to take photographs with various types of shadowing by perhaps waiting for a certain cloud to move across the glowing sun or even having the couple stand under some shade where more muted lighting can be found. One big rule of thumb to always remember is to have the sun behind you and off to the side. No doubt there will be some unavoidable squinting so consider having a UV and polarizing filter handy to decrease the potential glare. Thinking silhouette shots would look great? Shoot directly facing the sun as this gives beautiful, romantic shadows of your bride and groom to be.
3.) Don't Forget to Add Action Shots.
Consider having the wedding party running or gently skipping down the beach or having them all jump high into the air simultaneously. Be sure you have a very fast shutter speed to ensure great action shots. How about having the couple walking down the beach, enjoying that first wedding kiss or holding hands swinging around in circles? When the wedding is over there is always room for some playful splashing as well as the infamous walking off into the sunset happily-ever-after photo.
4.) Keep shooting.
Basically, be prepared to take many more shots than you originally had intended upon. With the various lighting aspects that come from an outdoor wedding as well as relying on Mother Nature, it's best to be very well prepared. When you have a certain number of pictures you count on taking...double or even triple that amount as you may find what you thought was a fabulous picture was ready for the delete button instead!
5.) Don't Forget About Great Shots at the Beach Reception Nearby.
Beautiful and serene beach weddings often have a reception afterwards nearby so prepare to take a lot of pictures there as well. Keep your keen eye out for the little ones napping, grandma or grandpa getting their "groove on" on the dance floor and other fun memories to look back on and smile about. The possibilities and rewards of photographing a beach wedding are as endless as the number of grains of sand.
