Wedding Photography Ideas

Liven up your wedding photography by offering instant photos at the reception. All you need is to partner your digital camera with an instant printer… and you’re in business!

Instant Photos at the Reception

Wedding Photography Technology today makes it easy to share samples of your best photos at the reception. You can get real hard-copy photos out of your camera through a direct connection to a dedicated photo printer. These are usually more compact and portable than the general-purpose inkjet printers attached to most computers; they also produce good standard-sized prints from the camera wherever you may be.

If you think about it, there’s nowhere better to make use of a printer than at social occasions such as weddings. People are usually in high spirits and the atmosphere is perfect for showing off your photo skills.

Find a quiet spot during the reception to review your shots and choose a few of the best to print. Or you could print on demand for those guests keen to take a keepsake of the day with them. Add your business card, and you may be surprised how many of the guests will contact you for prints or bookings after the fact.

Quick Tips for Setting up a Mobile Print Studio

• If you’re not the official wedding photographer, make sure that you don’t put yourself in competition with the person who actually has to make a living from these events. Always get permission from the happy couple before the wedding. Chances are that they would be more than happy to get a collection of informal and impromptu photos of the kind official photographers rarely take. Make sure to stay far away from any group or formal shots that the wedding photographer sets up.

• If you are the official wedding photographer, only print a couple of your almost-best photos as a gift to guests and make sure they know where to order more.

• As only a few photo printers are battery-powered, make sure you will have enough power at the venue. It shouldn’t be a problem in a hotel or at a restaurant, but in a marquee you may have a challenge on your hands.

• Pack sufficient paper for your printer. Many photo printers use special packs that may not be as readily available as those for conventional inkjet printers.

• Buy a small photo album before the big day and take it along with you. You can then choose a few shots that you really like and give the happy couple a unique present to take on honeymoon with them.

• If you have a photo projector, you may want to show the reception guests highlights of the day during the meal and the party afterwards.
