Two Lionesses

Two Lionesses

Two Lionesses

I read in your bio that you have a great love for Africa. We recently visited the Kruger National Park in South Africa and spent some time close to these two young lionesses who were taking their afternoon nap sheltered from the afternoon sun.

I know it's not a perfect shot - it would have been nice to have their eyes open and the surroundings are a little messy too, yet it's still an awesome feeling to know we've been so close to these two beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.

I used a Canon 350D for the shot and made minor adjustments in software, including a tighter crop.

Mia, thank you for this section on your site. It's lovely to be able to share images I'm proud of.

Hi Selma,

This close-up of two lionesses reminds me of some of the most wonderful moments in my life - I've spent plenty of hours just basking in the glory of being so close to these magnificent creatures.

You're right, it would have been nice to have eye contact, but as it is, the photo has a lovely relaxed feel to it. I try never to crop my images, but have found that it's sometimes a neccessary evil with wild life photos - especially in the bush where clutter in the background can look very untidy. You did well here to remove as much of that as possible.

Thank you for submitting this shot.
