Macro Photography
So exactly what is macro photography? The term 'macro' is often misunderstood in its photographic context and can be mistaken for close-up photography.
While some people may think that simply engaging the macro mode on their digital cameras will inevitably result in a true macro image, they are unfortunately mistaken. Close-up photography is the act of photographing a subject up close, so that it fills the frame.
A good working definition for macro photography is images that show detail that are not visible to the naked eye. This means that a lot of close-up images that are labelled macro would actually be better off included in the nature section of photography.
Top Tip for Macro Photography
Whenever you delve into the realm of macro photography your depth of field becomes very narrow. It's important to check and recheck your focus both before and after a shot. Once you've shot an image, zoom in on it as much as your camera will allow to ensure the right sections of the frame are in focus.
