Capturing Great iPhone photos

Are the days of DSLR cameras and zoom lenses numbered as people rely on iPhone photography to capture their memories? It's possible to take amazing iPhone photos.

The iPhone is just one more of those wonders of modern technology we take for granted. It's a clock, a calculator, a games station, and oh yes... it's a phone too. And of course it's a photo album and camera - awesome to capture those crazy snapshots that record our family and fun times. Personally I use my iPhone almost as much as my DSLR these days. I love the simplicity and immediacy of capturing the small details and special moments in my life and sending it off to a family member or friend to bring a smile to their face.

It's also turned on my photographic eye and I love being able to seize the moment even on those rare occasions that I don't have my camera on me...

Benefits of Shooting with an iPhone

The things that I love most about shooting with an iPhone is that you almost always have it with you and it helps you to focus on details, especially when travelling, that you may overlook when you're only carrying a DSLR.

It also saves on post-processing time in Photoshop. You can immediately save your images to your photo library and send them to others via email or upload directly to Facebook or Flickr. You can also quickly upload your images and prepare a photo book to preserve the history of your travels. The files from the iPhone is perfect for a 7x7 inch square book.

Best iPhone Photography apps

There are many iPhone photography apps available, but one that caught my eye in the iTunes store is Hipstamatic. It is a tribute to the original plastic toy camera (the Hipstamatic 100) that was created by the Dobrowski Brothers in the early 1980s. It gives you the ability to swap lenses, film, and flash settings, all with the swipe of a finger, and the results are characterized by vignettes, blurring, oversaturation, and discoloured vintage looking images.

The photos have a casual snapshot feel, but turn your photographs into creative works.
