The Classic Family Portrait
...with a Creative Twist
The classic family portrait is usually more formal in nature and usually taken in a photographic studio where the backdrop and lighting can be manipulated for maximum effect. That doesn't mean you can't have a bit of fun in the studio!

Classic Family Portrait Samples
There are lots of elements that work together to create a beautiful family portrait. Many photographers insist that the quality of light is essential and therfore prefer a studio setting where
lighting
can be precisely monitored.
As much as lighting is key to better portraits, the atmosphere of the shoot is just as important. Look for expression and don't be afraid to try something creative! This could be as simple as tilting the camera, trying interesting
poses
, or changing your point of view. For classic family portraits it's often best to keep the backdrop as simple as possible, so that the focus is where it belongs: on your subjects.
The more you experiment, the more you will be able to work out your unique style.
